Let’s discuss recent changes related to email marketing compliance, specifically focusing on DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance).
Impact and Requirements:
Starting in early February 2024, major inbox providers like Gmail and Yahoo have implemented significant email compliance changes that affect those sending over 5,000 emails per day. These changes apply to:
- Free Email Senders: If you’re sending from a free email provider (such as Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail) and sending over 5,000 emails per day.
- Custom Domain Senders: If you’re sending from a custom domain that hasn’t been properly authenticated through DKIM, SPF, or DMARC, and you’re sending over 5,000 emails per day.
- Unauthenticated Custom Domains: If your custom domain is unauthenticated and you’re sending over 5,000 emails daily.
New Requirements:
- Custom Domain: Send emails from a custom domain (not a free email domain like gmail.com or yahoo.com).
- Domain Verification: Verify your domain via DKIM and SPF.
- DMARC Record: Set up a DMARC record with at least a policy of “p=none.”
- Unsubscribe Button: Offer a one-click unsubscribe button.
- Spam Complaints: Keep spam complaints below 0.3%.
- Enforcement Date: Gmail and Yahoo will begin enforcing these requirements in April 2024, which ay cause disruptions to your email marketing.
Remember, these changes aim to reduce spam and promote more authentic email marketing. Ensuring compliance will help maintain high deliverability rates and keep your emails out of the spam box.
